About Me
I am a second generation Pakeha. My ancestors came from the British Isles and Australia. Wellington has been my home, except for a few years in my early twenties when I lived and travelled overseas. I have two children, a long-time partner, and many years of life experience.
Extensive personal therapy has been a professional requirement, in both my earlier training as a counsellor and my current psychotherapy training. This has been indispensable to me, both for my own growth, and in guiding clients through their journey of self-exploration.
My Qualifications
I hold a BA (Psychology major), a Diploma of Counselling (an NZQA recognised qualification), and am currently training as a psychotherapist with the Institute of Transactional Analysis in Wellington. I am also training as a couples therapist in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples
May Sahar Counselling & Therapy
BA(Psych)/Dip Psychosynthesis Counselling

My Influences
The foundation for my practice as a counsellor comes from my training in both Psychosynthesis and Transactional Analysis as well as concepts and techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Since my late 20's, I have been a meditation practitioner and I have found that practices from these traditions can compliment counselling and therapy by developing the clients ability for present-moment awareness and self-reflection.
Each client is a unique individual, so effective counselling and therapy needs to be 'customised', I adapt my methods to find the most useful approach for you.
